For thousands of years, many cultures have used a variety of candle type lights to illuminate homes and to guide people during the hours of darkness.  These many types of lights developed into oil lamps, lanterns and the candles we know today.

Initially, candles developed as a method of lighting; subsequently, as gas lighting and then electrical lighting developed, the need for candles to be used for everyday illumination declined, and candles have become primarily a way of providing romantic lighting and ambience in the home.  To improve the ambience candles create manufacturers discovered that they could include fragrance oils and essential oils within the wax that is slowly released from the candle as the candle burns, and the scented candle was born.

By far, the most popular of the scented candles is the glass jar candle, these candles are made by setting a fragranced wax in a glass jar container.  Setting the wax in a glass jar allows a much softer wax to be used in the manufacture of the candle, meaning that natural plant based waxes can be used.  For this reason, you will generally find that many glass jar scented candles are suitable for Vegans.

Therefore, glass jar candles make ideal gifts for friends and family, or are just a wonderful indulgence for you.  Once you have found your perfect fragrance from our range of candles simply light the candle, sit back, and let the fragrance fill the room.

To maximise the candle burn time, always burn the candle until the top layer of wax is fully liquefied, i.e., fully ‘pools’,  before you put the flame out.  This helps to ensure that the candle does not ‘tunnel’ as ‘tunnelling’ will significantly reduce the burn time of your candles.

When using your scented candles you may find, from time to time, that the wick may develop a ‘mushroom’ shaped top, this is probably due to dust or contamination of the wick, always make sure that you trim the wick to remove this mushrooming.  This is because this mushrooming and reduce the ‘throw’ of the fragrance and affect the burn quality.

Always use a candle wick trimmer to trim the wick to remove the mushrooming, also, it is important to trim the wick to approximately 5 to 6mm, or in line with the information supplied with the candle.

Remember, the glass container will get hot as the candle burns, so it is important to ensure that it has fully cooled before handling or moving the candle.  Always use a coaster, or other heat proof candle plate, or other protective mat to prevent the heat from the candle from damaging the surface of your furniture.
