Bolsius’s history began in the late 1800’s when Antonius Bolsius established himself as a wax bleacher in his own garden in 1870. However, problems soon ensued when he found that the environment was too dusty for his bleaching process and he had problems with the smoke emanating from the process. To resolve these issues, Antonius was offered a piece of land, by his Uncle, adjacent to a field in Kerkendijk in the Netherlands. To this day, the Bolsius headquarters have remained on this site.
Initially, Antonius only produced a bleached wax material which he processed, packed and supplied to the Church and the Religious orders to allow them to manufacture their own candles. Today, Bolsius employ over 1,000 people manufacturing, marketing and selling their candles to over 50 countries of the world.
Bolsius manufacture a wide variety of candles, including: taper candles, rustic candles, pillar candles, ball candles, and, of course, their signature candle the Twilight Lowboy candle. And, as well as the standard range of everyday candles, Bolsius also offer a professional range of tealight and pillar candles, many of which are available for you to buy on our webpages.
Back in the 1870’s the die was cast and Bolsius have since built on the foundations established of innovation and attention to quality ever since. Today, Bolsius work to ensure that every candle is made to the highest possible quality and, is manufactured from high quality materials, to make sure that optimal burn properties are achieved with minimal smoke and soot levels.
